When I talk about the Drink, I can’t help but think about the old location of the Drink that was closed and replaced with a new and improved location down the street. I remember walking into the new Drink for the first time and I wondered if they could have improved what was one of my favorite clubs. I was quite impressed to find out that they did improve the Drink from it’s previous location, and kept most of what made the old location so cool.

The first room of the drink has a lot of tables, a very large bar, a DJ playing a lot of Q101ish type of music, and people stuffed into every available inch. This room is very much like the very first room of the original Drink, but maybe a little smaller. You can order food in this room if you want, I rarely see people order anything, but it has been done. They keep you squeezed into this room until they open the doors to the main dance room usually around 10:30-11:00.

When they finally open the doors to the main dance floor, you can not help but be awe struck. The room is huge, quite a change from the two smaller dance floors in the original Drink. The basketball court-sized room has a pretty big dance floor, several bars, a cigar room, a VIP room, and a little balcony with another bar. Various dance music gets pumped into the room and it gets crowded. The dance floor gets packed and spills out to the rest of the floor, so most of the people in the room are a dancing. There is a huge video screen close to the dance floor playing various clips and sometimes focusing on certain people dancing inside the club. Most of the people are college age or mid-twenties and are a lot of fun. drink1.jpg (8987 bytes)
This club is not called the Drink for nothing. There are drinks available in every corner of the club, and there are a few specialties too. There is a Vodka bar and a Tequila bar, the tequila bar is supposed to have 50 different types of tequila. My friends and I tried to sample all of the different types but fell far short of our goal. In addition, there is also a bar that will prepare for you, my personal favorite, The Bucket. A Bucket is a pretty large bucket-shaped cup filled with various types of alcohol of your choice. After you have a couple buckets, you are going to have a good time the rest of the night. The prices for mixed drinks, shots, and beer is comparable to other premium Chicago nightclubs.

One measure of how hot a club is if there are any celebrity sightings. On my most recent Drink excursion, we ran into Chicago’s highest paid baseball player - Albert Belle. Now I have run into a few celebs in my time, and I have made it a point to go up and at least say something to everyone that I have encountered. However, Belle has not had the reputation of being Mr. Fan Friendly, so all I could come up with to say to him was "Hey, you’re Albert Belle!" He looked at me disgustedly and replied "Yeah" and I had visions of him throwing me through a window. Later on, one of my friends who is a huge Sox fan went up to him and had a nice chat with him and he didn’t get hurt, so Albert must be a somewhat nice guy.

In summing up the Drink, I have to say that this new location is even better than the old location. Fans of the old Drink will not be disappointed by the new version and people who never have been to either location will be knocked out by Drink’s atmosphere, main dance floor, big crowd, and the great variety of drinks available. I definitely recommend partying at the Drink and I guarantee you will have a good time.
