Im sometimes amazed at all the different possible feels that
individual clubs can create. When I stepped into the Leg Room, I felt a new club
experience as I stepped into a club that was like something out of the movie Swingers; a
club that felt like a speakeasy or something out of 40s film noir. The Leg Room is a
great place to bring a few friends to have a drink, talk, and just soak up the atmosphere. |
The Leg Room is one of the nightspots along the Rush & Division
main strip of clubs, close to the Division street Alumni club. I walked into the Leg Room
(I think I got there around 10:30 pm and paid no cover) thinking that it would be a second
stop along a mighty pub crawl, but I wound up staying there with some friends for the
majority of the night, we enjoyed it that much. |

As I walked into the Leg Room, I
noticed immediately that there were an abnormal amount of chairs, tables, and couches, and
that there was no dance floor. We took some seats near the rear of the club, close to the
DJ who played everything from Sinatra-era tunes to ABBA and to todays alternative
hits. The specialty of the house is their martinis, so I ordered a vodka martini (price:
$6) and a cigar from their extensive cigar menu (cigar prices range from $5 to $22). With
cigar and martini in hand this was the perfect atmosphere for my friends and I to just
chill out and laugh the night away. |

| The
crowd at Leg Room was pretty cool. It was a twentysomething crowd packed with people who
were just looking to hang out with their friends. Everyone was dressed pretty casually;
and adding to the Swingers-like atmosphere was one guy who actually looked cool wearing a
Fedora. I wish I could wear a Fedora and get away with it, but for now Ill just be
glad that I found a place where someone my age can wear one and not look like a freak. As it got later into the night, three girls moved some
of the tables and chairs away and began to dance in the space they created. They must have
been really drunk, because not only was it one of the worst displays of dancing I have
ever witnessed, they were the only ones in the club who were even thinking about dancing.
They were later joined by a couple of guys who were looking to score. People, there are
about 500 dance clubs within walking distance from Leg Room, if you want to dance do not
come here! The really bad dancing ruined the mood, so we got our stuff together and began
to stumble to the exit. |

| After
we left Leg Room, my friends and I all agreed that we really liked it there. It is a great
place to hang out or if you dont feel like doing the normal dance club or sports bar
routine. The atmosphere is excellent, I felt like I was one of the rat pack as we listened
to Frank sing, filled up the room with cigar smoke (stay away from the Fighting Cock), and
enjoyed some good drinks. If youre hanging out on Rush & Division, I definitely
recommend stopping in and checking it out. |
