Front of Mad Bar
|
You ever notice that there are those places that are never really
noticed in the big mainstream of nightclubbing? Mad Bar is one of those places. Located in
Chicago's Wicker Park approximately one block north of Red Dog, Mad Bar seems to have its
own small following every week night with all of its special events. |
Mad Bar is what the name says it is: a bar. It takes up a very small
area. As you enter, you are greeted by a small bar to your left. To your right is a small
stage where live bands play there frequently. Next to the stage is a larger bar for your
drinking needs. A DJ booth rests next to the smaller bar and a VIP room is next to the DJ
booth. There is a pool table in the center of the bar with a bright light illuminating the
velvet playing area. Cocktail tables and chairs fill up every other empty square inch of
Mad Bar. |

You want special nights? Mad Bar
has six of them. Sunday is called Spanish Fly. Flamenco and Argentinean Rock are pumped
out by the live band Spanish Fly. $1.50 Miller Products and El Tosoro Tequila shots also
help. On Mondays, Innovations and Mad bar present Chrome. DJ's Phantom45, Justin Hewn, and
guests bring you a night of drum-n-bass, experimental hip-hop, electronica, and down tempo
for something new. On Tuesdays, Mad Bar and The Beat Parlor present a night of blissful
house music hosted by the team of Sinbad, Bobby Pins, Miss Krystal, Beto, and Arman with
DJ's Diz and Tim. Velocity magazine also hosts a special event there on the first Tuesday
of every month. |

| Wednesdays
are very special at Mad Bar. Not only do ladies get in free all night long, but flamenco
band Bandoloeros plays a wild sound along with resident DJ Mel Hammond. This is the
longest running night at Mad Bar and it's still just as hot as when it started two years
ago. Thursdays are the Funky Fly Cinema. Hostess Marsha Mellow and DJ Shamanlove bring you
a night of funky sights, sounds and smells. Friday nights pump with thick music, thick
drinks and a thick crowd. DJ's Jevon Jackson and Mel Hammond go nuts on four turntables
pumping out house, underground, and other groovy sounds.
Saturdays are another wild night as a
marriage of high tech and the beat occurs with DJ's Diz and Mark Grant working the high
tech. The beat is supplied by former Poi Dog Pondering percussionist Lettie Garcia.
Together, they put on a wild show for the senses. It's a trip into sound and rhythm. |

Having Fun Mad Bar!

|
This place is generous with its front door.
On most nights, there is no cover until 10 PM and even if you get there late, the cover
only ranges from $3-$5. The ladies have it even better because they pay no cover on
Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It's a pretty good deal.
